3rd Period Matrix- 12/7

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions on review topics.
-Students practiced conversation questions in partners.
-Students spent the majority of class working on their projects. We will begin presenting in class next Friday. We will have all of class on Wednesday to work as well, if needed.
-HOMEWORK: Students should continue to work on their projects at home.

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions from each other on the music/dance we discussed on Wednesday.
-We read about the music and dance of Flamenco (copies are outside my classroom).
-Students were given instructions on the project we will begin next week on Latin music (see attachment).
-HOMEWORK: Students should be thinking about which option they will choose for their project, and which music they plan to present on.

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions about the videos we watched last class.
-Students read about two new types of music/dance: Cumbia and Bachata. We listened to songs and learned the steps to each.
-HOMEWORK: Students should complete the reading on "Hip Hop Latino" and do the question worksheet (see attachment for worksheet--copies of the readings are outside my classroom in "3rd Period Matrix" folder)

Class Activities: 

-Students continued discussion on music and dance of Latin cultures.
-Students read about merengue and bolero, and listened to songs of each.
-HOMEWORK: Students need to complete the question worksheet on these music/dance forms (see attachment)

3rd Period Matrix- 11/7

Class Activities: 

-Student reviewed questions on Jose Guadalupe Posada.
-Students who did not yet present their skeleton art did so today. Feedback will be given next week on these presentations.
-We are beginning to study Latin music and dance. Today we read about salsa and tango. Students listened to different songs and learned a few steps from the dances.
-HOMEWORK: Students should complete the reading on Mariachi and answered a question sheet on these three types. It is due next class, Wed Nov 14. (question sheet is attached, the reading can be found outside the classroom in the "3rd Period" folder)

3rd Period Matrix- 5/2

Class Activities: 

-Students discussed the importance of music in our lives, and what kind of music they like.
-We listened to a popular type of music heard in Mexico, called Mariachi.
-We discussed the different instruments found in Mariachi bands, and learned the name of two important ones: la vihuela (small guitar) and el guitarron (large guitar).
-Students listened to a mariachi song called “El Rey” and talked about whether they thought it was happy or sad.
-In partners, students worked on translating the lyrics to the song to see what it was really about.
-Students have no homework.

Examen, música latina

Class Activities: 

Students took a test on music today to finish up our unit on Latin music. For extra credit, they could write on the back of the test information about salsa, flamenco, and tango. On the map portion, students are to write the country and nationality of each artist and identify the country on the map.

Once students were done with the test, we did a short activity together (Mad Libs in Spanish).

Tarea: students need to bring in their final completed poster that they will present to the class on Friday.

4th Latin Artist: Bebe

Class Goals: 

Learn about the life of our fourth artist, Bebe, and practice past tense verbs and music-related vocabulary.

Class Activities: 

Start class with attached do now activity (matching vocabulary words related to music).

Go over word definitions as a class.

Students share their homework as a group--a biography of artist Bebe.

Students read attached biography in groups of two and answer questions about the artist. Go over answers as big group.

Listen to parts of 2 of Bebe's most famous songs, and students come up with words to describe them.

Homework: Students research Puertorican reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee
