3rd Period Matrix- 9/19

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced saying dates in Spanish.
-Students learned the history of Mexican Independence Day and completed a reading in Spanish of an interview (see attachment for reading and guide).
-We celebrated the holiday the same way Mexicans do, by going outside and shouting together, "Viva Mexico!"
-Students will have a quiz on Friday over months of the year and numbers.
-HOMEWORK: Students must complete a worksheet about the reading we went over in class (see attachment). They should also study for the quiz.

Before School: Beginner 9/19

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced answering typical conversational questions.
-Students learned the history of Mexican Independence Day and completed a worksheet about it (see attachment).
-We celebrated the holiday by trying "Horchata", a Mexican drink, and cookies made with Dulce de Leche.
-HOMEWORK: Students must complete a worksheet about Mexican Independence Day (see attachment).

Before School: High Beginner 9/18

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed days of the week and numbers in Spanish.
-The class will be having an oral quiz in class next week on Tuesday. A study guide for the quiz was handed out (see attachment).
-Students learned about the history of Mexican Independence Day, which occurred on Sept 16.
-Students read an interview about the holiday and we discussed it as a group.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a multiple choice worksheet on the interview reading (see attachment). They should also be studying for the oral quiz.

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed mariachi music and the types of instruments they use.
-We discussed the history of Cinco de Mayo and how music is a large part of Mexican culture.
-In partners, students participated in a mariachi project. They had to make a poster, write a song, or create a dance. When finished, students presented their projects to the rest of the class.
-Students have no homework.

2nd Period Matrix- 5/5

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed the history of Cinco de Mayo that we learned last class.
-Students made their own cards to play "Loteria" (Bingo).
-A couple students brought in Mexican snacks to share with the class. Everyone enjoyed homemade flan and guacamole (Gracias Vaughn and Jordan!!).
-We played Loteria to practice the vocabulary we learned last class. Students won Mexican candy for being able to name the picture in Spanish.
-Students have no homework.

2nd Period Matrix- 2/15

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed the vocabulary we learned for the Carnival festival.
-Students finished making their Carnival masks, and I awarded prizes for the Funniest, Best, and Most Interesting.
-Students learned a traditional Brazilian dance, the samba. I taught them motions to a particular samba song that I know.
-We played a “Toss the Bead Necklace” game to practice with Carnival vocabulary.

3rd Period Matrix- 2/10

Class Activities: 

-Students answered comprehension questions on their homework reading about “Carnaval” (see attachment for questions).
-We learned a few vocabulary words associated with this festival and watched a couple video clips in class.
-Students created their own mini parade floats for our Carnaval celebration next week.
-We will finish the floats and have our celebration on Wednesday, Feb 15. There is no homework.

2nd Period Matrix- 2/10

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills.
-We learned about the festival of “Carnaval”, celebrated in several Spanish-speaking countries around the world (see attachment for lesson). We learned a few vocabulary words associated with this festival and watched a couple video clips in class.
-Students created their own “mascaras” (masks) for our Carnaval celebration next week.
-We will finish the masks and have our celebration on Wednesday, Feb 15. There is no homework.
