Before School: Beginner 5/8

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions about the history and celebration of Cinco de Mayo. We talked about the difference between this holiday and Mexican Independence Day on Sept 16.
-We reviewed verbs in the present tense and played a group game.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet to complete (see attachment).

3rd Period Matrix- 2/13

Class Activities: 

-Students split into groups to work on Carnival celebration projects. Some created dances and costumes together, and others did face painting and songs.
-We enjoyed some Carnival cupcakes and chips/salsa!
-Groups presented their projects to one another.
-NO HOMEWORK

2nd Period Matrix- 2/13

Class Activities: 

-Students finished making their Carnival headdresses or masks. We took votes on the Most Unique, Super Pretty, Most Complicated, and Funniest.
-We enjoyed some King Cake and cookies in celebration of the festival.
-Students learned a popular children's samba dance from Brazil.
-NO HOMEWORK.

3rd Period Matrix- 2/8

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed the reading on Samba with questions in Spanish.
-We read about Candombe, music of Argentina and Uruguay (see attachment).
-We watched videos of Candombe.
-We also read about Soca y Calypso music of Trinidad and Tobago (see attachment) and listening to a couple songs.
-HOMEWORK: Students have questions on Candombe (see attachment).

Before School: High Beginner 2/7

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed the reading on Carnival with true/false statements.
-We read about typical masks made during Carnival in the Dominican Republic. Next class we will begin making our own.
-HOMEWORK: Students should think about a character for their mask so they are ready to get started on Tuesday. They can also bring any recycled materials from home they wish to use for their masks.

3rd Period Matrix- 2/6

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed the reading on Carnival with comprehension questions. We discussed how to properly answer questions in Spanish using complete sentences.
-Students read about the music and dance of Samba (see attachment).
-We watched videos of Samba.
-HOMEWORK: Students should complete worksheet on Samba (see attachment).
