Before School: Actividades (5/9)

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed how articles in Spanish must match the noun (el or la, un or una). We also looked at plural forms (los or las, unos or unas).
-We reviewed the use of the verb “gustar”.
-We learned new vocabulary about “Actividades” (activities) so we can talk about what we like to do in our free time.
-Students have no homework but should be studying vocabulary at home to be prepared for class.

2nd Period Matrix- 1/13

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills with one another.
-Students will have a quiz in class on Wednesday Jan 18. It will be an oral (spoken) quiz, so they will not need to write anything. I handed out instructions for the quiz (see attachment).
-We spent class practicing together for the quiz. We reviewed the activities vocabulary and asked one another if they like doing a particular activity.
-We also practiced with the school subjects vocabulary. Students asked one another which classes they have on their schedule. We took a survey of how many students in our class have each subject.
-Homework is to study for the quiz.

2nd Period Matrix- 1/11

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills with one another.
-We played “Simon Dice” to practice with commands, body parts, and directions.
-We reviewed the use of the verb gustar. Students practiced creating their own sentences with this verb.
-We discussed new vocabulary of school subjects (see attachment).
-No homework for today.

2nd Period Matrix- 1/6

Class Activities: 

-Students had a substitute, Karina.
-Students practiced conversational skills with one another.
-Karina discussed further details on expressing likes and dislikes. She gave them an explanation sheet on how to use the verb gustar. In class, they worked on a worksheet to practice using this verb (see attachment for explanation sheet and worksheet).
-Students were given homework on gustar (see attachment).

2nd Period Matrix: 1/4

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills with one another. We practiced using “mucho gusto” (it's nice to meet you) after introducing ourselves.
-We discussed how to translate various activities we may like to do. We filled out the vocabulary sheet as a group (see attachment for vocab).
-We discussed how to express if you like something or not. “I like” is Me gusta, or “I don't like” is No me gusta. “You like” is Te gusta, or “You don't like” is No te gusta. Students went around the classroom with a checklist of activities, asking each other what they like.
-I will be out of town this Friday, Jan 6. My sub will be Karina, who has previously subbed at Logan for Spanish. She is from Colombia and is very excited to have our students in class.
-Students do not have any homework.

Before School: La comida (11/23)

Class Activities: 

-Students began class by writing down seven foods they like, and three they do not like.
-After writing the lists, we practiced conversational skills by discussing which foods we wrote down.
-We reviewed the conjugation of the verb "gustar", and how to express preferences (see previous lesson for attachment on "gustar")
-Students learned how to use the verb "encantar", which can mean "to love". It functions the same as the verb "gustar".
-Students completed a worksheet practicing how to discuss foods they like or love.
-No homework was given. Students should be continuing to study the vocabulary list of food from last week (see previous lesson for attachment)

Before School: La comida (11/18)

Class Activities: 

-Students took a quiz. If you were absent, please see me about setting up a time to take the quiz.
-Students were given a vocabulary list with words relating to food, drinks, and restaurants (see attachment for list)
-We discussed how to express preference with the verb “gustar”. We looked at the different ways to conjugate the verb according to the speaker and the subject you are speaking about (see attachment for study sheet on “gustar”)
-For homework, students are to study the vocabulary list in order to be prepared for class activities.

3rd Period Matrix- 11/18

Class Activities: 

-Students answered comprehension questions about the Frida Kahlo reading we did in class on Wednesday.
-We talked about surrealism and looked at different surrealist paintings. We discussed why Kahlo said in her quote that she is not a surrealist painter.
-We reviewed the conjugation of the gustar-like verbs (see previous lesson for worksheets)
-Students individually read a biography in Spanish about Pablo Picasso. We looked at pictures of his artwork and discussed a few comprehension questions (see attachment for biography)
-Student were given homework on the gustar-like verbs. It is due the Wednesday after Thanksgiving (see attachment for assignment)

3rd Period Matrix- 11/16

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed the use of the verb “gustar”, and how to express preferences. We discussed the conjugation of other verbs that are similar to “gustar” and students filled out worksheets with the correct uses of these verbs. (see attachment)
-In partners, students read a biography in Spanish on the Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. We discussed reading questions as a group and looked at photos of her artwork. (see attachment for reading)
-Homework was given (see attachment). It is due next class period, Friday 11/18.

3rd Period Matrix- 11/9

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced their conversational skills with their classmates.
-We reviewed how to express our preferences with “Me gusta(n)”. We also reviewed how to express the preferences of others (you, he, she, us, them).
-Students learned about the verb “ser”, which means “to be”. We practiced using it to describe objects and people. Ser is used for describing more permanent features. You can say “La silla es roja” (“The chair is red”).
-No homework was given and we will not have class this Friday 11/11
