Before School: Las direcciones (4/27)

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed how to give directions to different rooms in the school. I handed out a vocabulary sheet with helpful phrases on it (see attachment).
-We played a blindfolded game to help practice giving each other directions.
-Next week, we will be doing an Amazing Race activity around the school.
-For homework, students have a worksheet due next class, Wed 5/2 (see attachment).

Before School: Las direcciones (4/25)

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed and practiced directional commands in Spanish (derecha=right, izquierda=left, adelante=forward, de atras=back)
-We learned phrases for giving someone directions (Gira a la...(Turn to the...); Sigue adelante (Continue forward); Va arriba/abajo (Go up/down)). I will hand out a sheet on Friday with this vocabulary.
-We practiced giving directions to a place in the school and having someone guess where we picked.
-Next week we will be doing an Amazing Race activity throughout the school.
-For homework, students have a worksheet due next class, Fri 4/27 (see attachment).

Before School: Las Direcciones

Class Activities: 

-Students took a quiz on “ser”, “estar”, and “tener”
-We learned to dance salsa, one of the most popular dances in Latin culture. Using salsa steps, we practiced with directions in Spanish (right=derecha, left=izquierda, forward=adelante, backwards=de atras).
-Students played a blindfold game where they led one another through a maze using only Spanish directional commands.
-Students have no homework.

3rd Period Matrix- 10/21

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills by asking one another questions and responding correctly.
-Students learned a new question, "¿De dónde eres?", "Where are you from?". You may respond with, "Soy de Colorado" or "Soy de los estados unidos".
-We reviewed how to give directions to someone.
-Students played an "Amazing Race" game by splitting up in teams and following directions to clues hidden around the school.
-For next class, we will play another version of the "Amazing Race" game, using directions that students began writing this class period for the other team.

2nd Period Matrix- 10/21

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills by asking one another questions and responding correctly.
-Students reviewed directional commands and body parts vocabulary by playing "Simon Dice"
-Students learned how to conjugate the verbs "ser" and "estar" according to the person you are talking about or to. (see attachment for the conjugations)
-We discussed and reviewed when to use "ser" and "estar" (see previous lesson for explanation attachment)

3rd Period Matrix- 10/19

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills in class. Those who missed class last period took the oral quiz.
-We reviewed directional commands and how to give directions to others. We practiced giving directions around the school to different classrooms.
-We reviewed transportation vocabulary and talked about what type of transportation you would use to go to different locations. (see previous lessons for vocab list and explanations)

2nd Period Matrix- 10/19

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills in class.
-We reviewed directional vocabulary by doing an exercise similar to the homework assignment. (see past lesson for explanation)
-Students were introduced to the two different ways of saying "I am" in Spanish. See attachment for the list of how to use them.

3rd Period Matrix- 10/14

Class Activities: 

-Students took an oral quiz on conversational questions. Those who missed class will need to take the quiz when they return to class. See previous lesson for the study sheet attachment.
-Students practiced writing out numbers in Spanish. If you missed class, practice with some at home: 54, 67, 89, 34, 23, 77, 91, 26.
-Students reviewed how to tell time in Spanish. Remember that for one o'clock you say, "Es la una...". For other times you say, "Son las...".
-We reviewed basic directions from last class: right, left, forward, and back.
-Students learned two more directions: up and down, "arriba" and "abajo".
-We played "Simon Dice" (Simon Says) to practice with body parts, commands, and the directions we learned this week.
-Students learned how to ask for and give directions:
Turn left/right = "Gira a la izquierda/derecha"
Continue forward/backward = "Sigue adelante/de atrás"
Go up/down = "Va arriba/abajo"
-Students practiced by giving directions to different classrooms in the school.
-We reviewed transportation vocabulary from last class period.
-Students were given two worksheets for homework, one on directions and the other on transportation vocabulary. They are both due next class period (10/17). See attachment for the worksheets.
