3rd Period Matrix- 10/17

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed concordance, making sure adjectives match their nouns in gender and number.
-Students practiced conversational skills in partners.
-Those who did not present their famous person did so today.
-Students did a reading on Day of the Dead, and began answering comprehension questions.
-HOMEWORK: I asked students to think about what they wanted to do to celebrate Day of the Dead this year. If students missed class, they should print off or pick up the reading and answer the comprehension questions (see attachments).

2nd Period Matrix- 10/3

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills as a class and in partners.
-We did a listening activity where students heard a dialogue between two people and answered questions about it.
-Students were given vocabulary lists with clothing words (both pages are outside my classroom in the "2nd Period Matrix" folder).
-We went through the vocabulary together and students wrote sentences describing what they're wearing (Llevo... = I'm wearing...).
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet on clothing vocab (copies are outside my classroom in the "2nd Period Matrix" folder). It is due in class on Friday.

2nd Period Matrix- 9/28

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed how to respond to the question, "Como estas?" (How are you?)
-Students were given handouts with conversational questions and words (copies are outside my classroom). In partners, student practiced having simple conversations in Spanish with each other.
-We reviewed numbers and days of the week. Students played a calendar game in groups.
-HOMEWORK: Students have no homework.

2nd Period Matrix- 9/26

Class Activities: 

-Students review how to talk about what day tomorrow is.
-We read a story called, "En la escuela" ("At school"), which was in both Spanish and English. Through the reading we learned several new phrases (copies of reading can be found outside my classroom).
-Students learned the conversational question, "Como estas?" which means "How are you?"
-We practiced different responses by acting them out.
-Students practiced in asking each other and responding to this question.
-Student were given vocab lists for the emotions (copies outside my classroom).
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet on emotions and "Como estas?" (copies outside my classroom). It is due in class on Friday.

Before School: High Beginner 9/20

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed our discussion on Mexican Independence Day.
-Students practiced conversational skills in partners.
-We talked about how to conjugate the verb "tener" (to have), in order to say I have, you have, she has, etc. We will go over this again next week.
-We will be having an oral quiz on Tuesday on conversation questions. Practice at home to be prepared.
-HOMEWORK: Study for oral quiz.

Before School: High Beginner 9/6

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed numbers in Spanish. Practice writing these out or saying them out loud in Spanish: 25, 37, 84, 91, 66, 92, 53
-Students were given a handout "How to study vocabulary". Copies may be found outside my classroom. Students discussed which methods they will choose to use this year to study for Spanish.
-We reviewed basic conversational questions and how to answer them.
-For homework, students have a worksheet (see attachment). It is due next class- Tues 9/11.

Before School: Por el teléfono (2/29)

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed translating phone numbers into Spanish.
-Students practiced conversational skills with one another. Students learned a new conversation question, “Donde vives?” (Where do you live?). We practiced answering with “Vivo en...” and then saying our address.
-We played “Simon Dice” to review body parts and actions.
-Students practiced asking each other “Cual es tu numero del telefono?” (What is your phone number?) in preparation for an activity we will do on Friday.
-Students have no homework.

2nd Period Matrix: 12/9

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills with their classmates. They continued practice with saying, “It's nice to meet you”, or mucho gusto. We learned a new conversational questions, “De donde eres?”, “Where are you from?”. The response is “Soy de...(Colorado, los estados unidos)”, “I am from...Colorado, the Unites States”.
-Students began working on their weather books. We will continue working on these in class next Wednesday. The instructions for the book are: must include a cover page with their name and “Mi Libro del Tiempo”; must include one page for each season; must include all the weather vocabulary words we discussed in class; weather should be drawn and labeled.
-There was no homework given.

3rd Period Matrix- 11/4

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills. I discussed how I would like to see them advancing in their confidence and pronunciation when speaking Spanish.
-I walked the students through this website to make sure all understood how to access our lesson plans.
-We discussed the correct way of expressing if you like something. If what you like is singular, you say, “Me gusta”. If what you like is plural, you say, “Me gustan”.
-We discussed the ways to change the article according to who likes it. For “you like”, you say, “te gusta(n)”.
-Homework was given on this subject. It is due next class period, 11/9. (see attachment for assignment)
