Before School: La Hora (11/4)

Class Activities:

-Students began class by writing numbers 1-30 out in Spanish. By this time, students should be comfortable translating numbers into Spanish. If they are still having difficulty, they should study numbers at home to be prepared for class as we will be using them often.
-Students practiced conversational skills. I discussed how I would like to see them advancing in their confidence and pronunciation when speaking Spanish.
-I walked the students through this website to make sure all understood how to access our lesson plans.
-Students learned how to ask for and tell the time in Spanish. (see previous lesson for explanation sheet)
-Homework was given on telling time. It is due next class period, 11/9. (see attachment for assignment)

3rd Period Matrix

Class Activities:

-Students practiced conversational skills by asking one another questions about their age, their name, how they're doing, and where they're from
-We discussed different types of transportation and which you use to go to certain locations
-Students competed in teams in another version of the Amazing Race. I used directions that they began writing for one another last class period. Following these directions around the school led them to the next clue. At each clue, they collected words that they needed to put together at the end to form a sentence. The winning team collected their clues and put the sentence in correct order first
-We practiced with commands, body parts, directions, and verbs by playing "Simon Dice"
-NO CLASS ON FRIDAY. Second quarter begins next Wednesday

-Students were given a sheet explaining how to tell time in Spanish. They should look this over at home in preparation for class next week (see attachment)

3rd Period Matrix- 9/30

Class Activities:

-Students were informed that there will be an oral quiz soon on the questions, "¿Cómo estás?", "¿Cuántos años tienes?", and "¿Cómo te llamas?". Students will be expected to answer these three questions in complete sentences. They were given a study sheet to begin practice at home (see attachment).
-Students were given a sheet with information about this website (see attachment). It is to be signed by students and parents and returned at the next class period.
-Students learned about the Festival de Mil Tambores (Festival of 1,000 Drums) that takes place in Valparaíso, Chile. The festival began as a celebration of alternative arts and grew into a celebration of peace and justice. Residents of the city gather together in the streets during the first weekend of October to celebrate. Some wear brightly colored costumes and masks while others paint their entire body in colors. Street performers fill the parade with juggling, martial arts, stilt-walkers, and giant puppets. As the name suggests, the festival is filled with drumming.
-Students were encouraged to bring in materials to use as drums. Those that brought items in were able to decorate them for the celebration next week.
-On Wednesday (after the quiz), we will parade around the halls of the school with our drums to celebrate the festival. Some students wanted to create hats, masks, and other decorative items. These are not required, but any kind of extra decoration is welcome. Students may wear brightly colored clothing on Wednesday if they like. We will have face painting available as well for those who wish to participate.
